Ishwar Nirnaya

The Ancient Vedas have an agnostic view on God in its certain sections .The Nasadiya Sukta of the Rigveda explains a sceptical idea on the Supreme Spirit .The Bhagavata Purana is the authentic puranic text which accepts the idea of a worshipful God from beginning to the end of the holy text ;Hence the Bhakti Saints and philosophers have accepted this Puran as a supreme authentication on the topic of a personal deity . Based on the Principles of Bhagavata, Sri MadhavDeva  (16th CE) composed Ishwar Nirnaya ,also he included Slokas from Brahm Purana & Vishnu Puran in support of his rhythmic meter .This devotional poem  is encoded in the book of Namghosa by Madhavdeva. Here’s a brief description & translation of the meter -

Krishna ek devo dukhohari    kal mayadiru adhikari
Krishna bine srestha Deva nahi nahi aar
Sristi sthiti antakari Deva          tanta bine
      aan nahi keva
Janiba Vishnu se samasta jagate saar

This verse is based on the quotations from Brahma Puran 49.69 ,which means There’s only one Divine being who is the annihilator of the threefold miseries ; He is also the Lord of illusion & denouement of the matter i.e matter & illusion can’t bind him. Hence, there’s no other Deva than Sri Krishna himself . There’s no other entity than Him as the Lord of creation ,maintenance & dissolution .Know that Vishnu is the abstract of the entire material creation .
Namo Namo Nitya niranjan  Narayana Siva sanatana
Anadi ananta nirgun gunaniyanta
Parama purusha bhagvanta    nahi purbapara adi anta
Tumise chaitanya samaste bhavbhawanta

Salutations to Nitya(eternal),Niranjan(spotless),Narayana( slumber on the celestial water),Siva(Auspicious),Sanatana(Eternal),Anandi(having no beginning),Ananta(Infinite),Nirgun(devoid of three gunas),Gunaniyanta( prime mover of the three gunas). There’s no beginning nor end of Him, there’s no one before Him nor After Him; the great being bhagavan(possessor of the sixteen attributes in fullest), i Adore Him .You are the Consciousness , instigator of gist .

Brahma Mahadeva Laxmi Devi        kaya vakya mane thir kari
Parama anade charana sevante jar
Sada janma jara mrityuhin                Srimanta sundar gunanidhi
Vishnut binae kun Dev ase aar

Whose lotus feet is worshiped blissfully by Brahma,Shiva & Goddess of Fortune herself through their mind, speech & body ;there’s no beginning nor end for Him, possessor of beautiful attributes , the supreme wealthy ; there’s no other being than Sri Vishnu .

Jaar  paddoke Devi Ganga    jar vakye huya ase Veda
Parama patitu taraye jahar name
Sristhi sthiti pralayar jitu      parama karana Narayana
Heno Ishwarak nabhajaye kun kame

From the Water which cleans His Holy Feet comes River Ganges  ; from His speech, comes the Vedas . Even a vile sinner is also saved by uttering Whose Holy Name ; who is the ultimate cause of Creation, maintenance & annihilation of material phenomenon is that Narayana , why not worship such supreme being (or being blind by lust or desire , you are not worshiping Him !)
Similar verses are found in Narayan atharvasirsam too ,Narayana pravartante Naryane pralayante

Apara sansara sindhu aar        Vishnuse param par jata
Par ase tate paramparatma rupe
Tente tumi jana Brahmapar    parparabhuta jata par
Tasambara par Vishnuse par svarupe

This verse is based on Vishnu Puran 1.15.55 : There’s no end to this ocean of worldly misery (or circle of birth & death) , but Vishnu is the shore of that ocean ,in form of paramatma the ultimate spirit . So know that starting from Brahma to all par and apars spirits ,the liberated too , for all of them the shore is Vishnu only .(or for those hankering after liberation & seeking paramatma aspect of philosophy, Vishnu is the Shore for them too).

Sankardeva's pastimes at Jagannath Puri

nirapekṣaṁ muniṁ śāntaṁ nirvairaṁ sama-darśanam anuvrajāmy ahaṁ nityaṁ pūyeyety aṅghri-reṇubhiḥ  - Srimad Bhagavata 11.14.16 (Meaning : With the dust of My devotees’ lotus feet I desire to purify the material worlds, which are situated within Me. Thus, I always follow the footsteps of My pure devotees, who are free from all personal desire, rapt in thought of My pastimes, peaceful, without any feelings of enmity, and of equal disposition everywhere.)      Tirth or pilgrimage in Vedic Tradition is the journey to holy places where knowledge, devotion and association of Saints is easily accessible. But unlike normal human beings ,a Sage visits holy places just to purify the material desires of others.Jagnnath Puri is one of the Holiest sites of Vaishnavism. This temple is associated with pastimes of many great personalities.Srimanta Sankardeva Visited Purusttama khestra twice,First somewhere near 1481 AD and later in 1550 AD.Whereas,Dinanath bezbarua wrote that the Mahapu...

Bhakti Ratnakar : Chapter of the Praises

Bhakti-Ratnakar is a Guhartha Granth (Extensive devotional book),probably the only Sanskrit book of Srimanta Sankardeva ; Sankardeva summarized more than thirty two Vedic scriptures to preach the Eka-Sarana Bhakti or the Single-minded devotion to Sri Krishna .Among those texts ,some important texts are : Srimad Bhagavata,Bhagavat Gita,Pandavi Gita,Padma Puran,Naradiya Puran,Matsya puran,Vishnu Puran,Skandh Puran,Suta Samhita,Bhavartha Deepika,Santi Satak,Bhujanga prayat ,Nirsimha puran,Vishnu-dharamotara ,Yoga-sara,Vaishnavanada,Prabodh Chandrodaya. Here I'm presenting the traditional Assamese poetry trans-creation of  the same book in transliteration. Sri Ramacharan Thakur ,Third in the Disciplic succession from Sankardeva translated the book into Assamese in the late 16th century .This Particular Chapter has the glorification of Bhakatas or the pure devotees of Krsna . I'm trying to render the verses in a simple meaning.           ...

Essence of all paths : Hari Nama

People often misunderstood the relation between the holy Vedas and the Bhagavata Marg . The Vedas are divine in origin ,it is also distinct from the Vedic rites (like purification, oblation ) which is the main  topic of Karmakanda .In general Vedas (mainly the Samhita part) have the seed of all paths .The Gita too glorified the mastery of the Vedas.  Latter by Vyasa ,the One Veda is divided into different parts !The Samhitas are divine in origin, while the other parts like Aryanka,Upanisad are the realizations of  different sages .                 Srimad Bhagavata is the fruit of the Divine vedas,it's the natural commentary on the Vedas ! Bhagavata is bit different than the Pancharatra Agama .The Bhagavata is katha based Nabadha Bhakti  ,It all started with the Chartursloki teaching ,latter espoused by the nine great sons of Risava deva . Another, line was that of Piplad -Samkhayan-Parasara- Maitrayee . Latter, on the conj...
