nanu svārtha-vimūḍhānāṁ
pramattānāṁ gṛhehayā
aho naḥ smārayām āsa
gopa-vākyaiḥ satāṁ gatiḥ (Srimad Bhagavata 10.23.45)
There are different types of spiritual seekers (or Dharmic) - the Karmis (dedicated to Action without expecting anything in return ),Jnani (Dedicated to Wisdom),Bhakta(Devotee); There are also,Jnana-mishra Karmis (Both Action & Wisdom like king Janaka of the Ramayana),Bhakti-Mishra Karmis(Like King Bali) and then three of them in together(like Arjuna of the Mahabharata) .But ,there's a another type of people known as Karmajadas ,those are blindly attached to the action with desires;mainly, ceremonial activities with a greed of this life and after life !The probability of their result is 50-50,even after enjoying the result of selfish actions, one has to come down even to the level of animals just because of the inner enemies such as lust, jealousy, anger etc .
The Karmajadas can't tolerate the devotees as the path of devotion consists of love and compassion . We can find the examples of this rivalry in all traditions, all religions - Whether Buddha or Jesus ,all of them have faced the wrath of Karmajadas. When Karma (Action) is dedicated to Lord Visnu, then only the term 'Dharma' is applicable,it is the conclusion of Sri Krishna Himself,Karmana madhikarsta na falesu .. only the Bhakti Mishra Karma have an everlasting Virtue!
In the twenty third chapter of the 10th canto Srimad Bhagavta, Sri Krsna declared the superiority of devotees above Karmajadas .It was an another day of the Vrindavan pastime, when Sri Krsna ,Balrama,Dama,Sudama,Sridhar and all other cowherd boys became hungry ;as in their leaders - Krsna and Rama's advice, some of the little boys went to a near-by sacrificial arena and beg some food from the Brahmanas (Priest). But those Karma-jada Brahmans ignored the boys and disappointed them .When they returned to Rama and Krsna, this time Lord Krsna send them to the Vipra patnis (wives of those priests) ;just by hearing Sri Krsna's name, the Vipra patni went to Sri krsna with all varieties of food prepared for sacrificial ceremony .They knew not only the divinity of Krsna Ram ,but also know the path of unconditional devotion. As,Krishna is the master and enjoyer of all vedic yajnas,so the Lord himself blessed the vipra patnis.latter, the Brahmanas themselves feel remorse and glorify the devotion of their respective wives.
There's one of such other episode is also found in the Katha-Gurucharita. As per this book ,Ananta Kandali (16th Century AD), a Kamrupi Brahamana poet was a karmajada earlier in his life.Although, he was an expert in all the scriptures (including Bhagvata),but he's Hari-Bimukh. His sacrificial (Agnihotra and all) power was so great that Dharma (Deity of Sacrifice ,Yama) himself came to his home in form of a bull and used to eat food offerings daily. On the other hand, his wife was a Vaishnava follower of Srimanta Sankardeva ,she used to sing the glories of Krsna and Saints faithfully. Kandali was upset with her and one-day,he send a servant to beat the Vaishnava wife. Due to this misdeed ,Dharma (Bull) then never came to Ananta kandali again !He realized his mistake ,as also in Smriti Shastras (Scripture of actions) - Yatra naryesu pujita ramante tatra Devata .His kind wife then came to about the sorrow of her husband ,so she advised him to see Sri Sankardeva .Ananta kandali went to Batradowa , he was surprised to witness the scenario as there exits Dharma in form of a kapila gai ! So, he tried to take the cow (Dharma according to Him) with various means ,but failed and returned ! Soon after he realized , 'Dharma is now there with Guru Sankara ' and he again off to Sankardeva and embraced Vaishnava Bhakti marg !Latter,at Sankardeva's request he translated certain portions of the Srimad Bhagvata .He also trans-created the Valmiki Ramayana into Assamese poetry and composed many epics based on Mahabharata,Ramayana and Bhagavata. In one of his book,he glorified Lord Vishnu and Vaishnavas as - Kaliyuga madhye Vaishavaese Vishnu,in this dark era ,vaishnavas are the forms of lord visnhu .
